ARTIST BIO
In first grade my school sent home a paper for my parents to sign asking how they preferred me to get home if we were attacked during the Cold War. In high school, I saw the destruction from the Vietnam War. I was surrounded by the constant threat of violence and fear from a young age. Raised in a strict Southern Baptist household, I found solace not in what the pastor had to say, but in the vibrant, sparkling stained glass windows in the church.
In recent years, the rise of hate and intolerance, often supported by those claiming religious authority, has continued to shape my perspective. My work addresses social issues stemming from politics, religion, and the establishment, drawing parallels to the wars and conflicts that marked my formative years.
I exhibited work in the Nashville art scene for over 30 years, including local collectives and commercial galleries. After the show Living Color II, the Nashville International Airport acquired my piece Fanblade. Seven art galleries represented my work, including Raymond Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. I owned Bryant Gallery in East Nashville from 2009 to 2013, and I’ve guest curated two Nashville art shows. During my hiatus from 2013 to 2022, I focused on my stained glass business. Due to retirement and a post-pandemic lack of creativity, I embarked on a psilocybin retreat leading to hours in my studio working on two bodies of work: Trapped (mixed media assemblages) and Music Series (mixed media paper & digital collage).
